Irma (not her real name) had finished seeing Dr. Juan and his team and was sent into the trailer with tears in her eyes. A nurse had meet with her in the Health Mobile and listened as she expressed her anxiety over being separated from her children still back in Mexico and other issues. I asked her why she was crying, but she could not express it. Through our translator Maria, I presented her a Bible and some cookies. She began to break a small smile. I told her it was a gift to bring her some happiness...

Our expectations for the first week of clinic in Sullivan County were exceeded: we saw more patients than we planned. One of the last patients we saw was Mr. Lopez (not his real name). He is a 59 year old diabetic gentleman who had not seen a doctor in a long time. While he had no overt physical sign of any significant abnormality, the only hint of a problem was the finger stick showing a sugar level of over 400...
